Montana Survives Against Southern Utah

With Weber State fans watching intently, Montana went on the road and beat Southern Utah in a game they probably should have lost. With SUU leading 67-64 in the final minute, Jordan Gregory nailed a deep three to tie the game. Eventually, this sent the game to OT.

In the extra frame, it was all Montana. The Grizzlies outscored the Thunderbirds 19-7 in overtime, winning the game 86-74. They just looked like they had more gas left, getting easy buckets going to the hoop while SUU couldn't buy a good look.

Kareem Jamar led Montana with 26 points, but he had help. Spencer Coleman finished with 16, while Keron DeShields (14) and Gregory (14 and the big shot) were major factors. That is big, because teams are going to dare everyone not named Kareem Jamar to beat them. On this night, the rest of the Grizzlies did enough.

Southern Utah got an outstanding game from Damon Heuir, who finished with 29 points. However, he was quiet down the stretch, and couldn't get many good looks near the end of the game. Still, this would not have been a close game were it not for Heuir.

We will get into all that this means shortly, but SUU suddenly has their backs against the wall, while Montana just has to win two home games to have home-court advantage and a bye in the Big Sky tournament. This game was big.
