Jordyn Martin Verbally Commits to Northern Arizona

New coach Jack Murphy has his first recruit.

Word is that F Jordyn Martin out of Las Vegas has verbally committed to Northern Arizona. He is a 6'7'' power forward, which is obviously huge for the Lumberjacks. Their effective height made them one of the smallest teams in the country last year, and they could not rebound well or protect the glass. This will help begin to fix things.

Martin averaged 11.2 PPG, 9.3 RPG, and 1.5 BPG last season, as his team finished 19-6. He should get immediate playing time on a team that lacks impact players in the frontcourt. I wasn't able to find a ton more information on Martin, but I will keep looking.

  1. Interesting that NAU, which stretched its coaching search long beyond what it should have been, has already signed a recruit, whereas ISU who made an "early" hire has yet to sign anyone.

  2. Coach Murphy grew up in Las Vegas. His first NAU recruit is from Las Vegas. Coincidence, I think not. 6'7" does count as a "big" on NAU's roster. Welcome, Jordyn. -MTJack

  3. MT Jack, what's up with the women's basketball coach resigning to take a lower division job? Was she a dead coach walking, so to speak? Too much chaos in the department? Any names coming out for that job?

  4. I don't live in Flagstaff and the athletic department is pretty tight lipped if there's drama involved. To be honest, I don't mind the fact that all of the gossip and internet hearsay doesn't occur with my alma mater. I do know that Coach Kelly was from Minnesota and I do know that she had a successful playing and coaching career up there. Maybe she saw the writing on the wall...I don't know? This has been quite the clean sweep, though.
